With a style that has been variously described as "passionate," "fiercely vigorous," and even "humorous," Brad Edwards has appeared as a soloist before audiences around the country. His solo credits include radio and television broadcasts, premieres of new music, guest recitals at colleges and regional workshops, and concertos with student and professional orchestras and wind ensembles. He was a featured soloist and recitalist with the United States Army Band at the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington D.C. As a member of the United States Air Force Concert Band in Washington D.C., he was twice featured as a soloist.
He has performed with such ensembles as the Baltimore Symphony, Hartford Symphony, National Symphony brass ensemble, Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra, Baltimore Opera Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, and the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra.
He has shared the stage with such diverse artists as Ray Charles, Dave Brubeck, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Olivia Newton John, Wynona Judd, the Gatlin Brothers, Robert Merrill, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Roger Daltry.
In 2007, he was selected to be participant at the prestigious Alessi Seminar in New Mexico.
Dr. Edwards teaches trombone at the University of South Carolina School of Music and is the Principal Trombonist of both Symphony Orchestra Augusta and the South Carolina Philharmonic. Previously, he taught at the University of Northern Iowa and played principal trombone Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony.
Dr. Edwards has also taught at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster Pennsylvania; the Peabody Institute of Music, the Hartford Conservatory of Music and Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut as well as the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Kinhaven Music School in Vermont. During the summers he currently teaches at the Carolina Summer Music Conservatory.
He has published two compositions: 4 Impromptus for Low Bone Alone for unaccompanied tenor or bass trombone and Blue Wolf for unaccompanied tenor trombone. Both these works were selected for publication by the International Trombone Association (available through Warwick Music). Blue Wolf is available on professional recordings by Stephen Parsons and Michael Davidson.
He has also written a number of fanfares celebrating International Trombone Week. These works are available on his website and on the website of the International Trombone Association.
His first two books: Introductory Studies in Tenor and Alto Clef: Before Blazhevich and Lip Slurs: Progressive Exercises for the Development of Tone and Technique are available through Ensemble Publications. (available from from Hickeys Music).
His third book, Simply Singing for Winds, was completed in 2010 and is available for purchase through this website as well as Hickey's Music.
He is finishing a new series of books, Trombone Craft: A Musical Approach
to Building
Tone and Technique. Volumes One and Two of this three-volume series will soon

Dr. Edwards holds degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Hartt School of Music. His primary teachers have been Jim Olin, Tony Chipurn, Ronald Borror and Henry Schmidt. He has also studied with Joseph Alessi, Arnold Jacobs, Dave Fedderly and Milt Stevens.
